Hattiesburg (MS) High School presented The Katrina Project: Hell and High Water, at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC, on December 7, 2006. The performance, billed as the Capital area’s major fundraising event for Hurricane Katrina, was hosted by U.S. Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi and his wife, Tricia, who is heavily involved in the arts. Tickets for the event were $250, and organizers targeted members of Congress, as well as representatives of foundations and other major organizations in the nation’s capital. The money raised through this event will go to Katrina charities and arts programs in hurricane-ravaged areas. Hattiesburg High’s performance of the play was the runner-up in the 2006 SETC Secondary School Theatre Festival.
